How the Credit Calculator Works

The calculator takes three inputs — price, duration, and rating — and tells you instantly whether a book is worth a credit. Here is the logic:

1. Compare price vs credit value. If the book costs more than $14.95 (your credit's base value), using a credit saves you money. If it costs less, buy directly.
2. Calculate cost per hour. Divide the credit value ($14.95) by the book's runtime. A 40-hour book gives you $0.37/hour. A 5-hour book gives you $2.99/hour. Lower is better.
3. Factor in rating. A long book with bad ratings is still a bad deal. The Value Score combines duration and rating to give a single number.

The Value Score Formula

Value Score = (Duration in hours x Star Rating) / Price in USD

Interpretation:

8.0+: Excellent credit value. Use a credit.
4.0-8.0: Good value. Use a credit if you want the book.
2.0-4.0: Marginal. Consider buying directly.
Below 2.0: Poor credit value. Buy directly.

Value Score: (5 x 4.5) / 12.99 = 1.73

Why Most People Waste Credits

The three most common credit-wasting mistakes:

Spending credits on cheap books. If a book costs less than $14.95, you lose money by using a credit. Buy it directly and save the credit for a pricier book.
